Remove DownSpeedTest Toolbar and Fix Your Hijacked Browser

Know about DownSpeedTest

DownSpeedTest is a plugin which has versions for Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. It claims to get accurate Internet speed test results on your PC, but you should know this software is defined as a PUP (Potential Unwanted Program) For some reasons.

In some versions, the installation DownSpeedTest will require you to set Ask.com as your homepage. In some other version, it will modify your browser setting without asking. As a result, users get home.tb.ask.com/index.jhtml as the default homepage and they have to suffer limited search results and non-stop ads from the it.

Manually remove DownSpeedTest step by step:

Step1. Stop the dubious running process
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Start Task Manager, click Process tab, find the related running process, and click End Process.

Step2. Remove its add-ons or extensions from your web browsers

For Google Chrome:
Open Google Chrome >>  Customize and control Google Chrome icon >> More tools >> click on Extensions >> Remove the related extensions

For Mozilla Firefox:
Open menu >> Add-ons >> Extensions and Plugins>>Remove the related extensions

For Internet Explorer:
Tools>> Manager Add-on >> Toolbars and Extensions >> Disable the related add-ons

Step3. Reset your browser

For Firefox:
Help>>Troubleshooting Information>>Reset Firefox

For Internet Explorer:
Tools>>Internet Options>>Advanced>>Reset

For Chrome :
Setting>>show advanced setting>>Reset Settings

Step4. Uninstall unwanted program from Control Panel


Click Start button, open Control Panel to choose Programs and Feature, then find the unwanted programs in the list, right click to uninstall them.

Step5. Open Registry Editor and remove registry entries
Start >> input regedit in the search box >>open  Registry Editor >>find the related date and remove them.
Notice: Skip this step if you are not familiar with Registry Editor. Use professional tools instead.
